Press Release

Cris Worley Fine Arts is pleased to announce Charlotte Smith: 2025, a solo exhibition of new paintings by acclaimed Dallas-based artist Charlotte Smith. This marks Smith’s twelfth solo exhibition with the gallery, a partnership that began in 2003. 2025 will be on view from June 14 through August 2, 2025, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 14th from 5 to 7 pm.

In this latest body of work, Smith continues to push the boundaries of her distinctive drip and drop technique, now embracing a bold resurgence of color and scale. Where previous exhibitions leaned into quiet restraint and meditative motion, 2025 marks a shift—an ascent into light, energy, and a renewed visual intensity.

The paintings ripple with chromatic energy—luminescent purples, sunlit ambers, marine blues—colors that vibrate across layers of poured, pooled, and suspended paint. These works suggest not only aqueous environments, but also cellular forms, stellar constellations, and emotional landscapes. The work's rhythmic density and gestural nuance reflect both intuitive control and Smith’s deep commitment to process.

The title, 2025, evokes the impact of time on creative evolution—a fitting metaphor for Smith’s own journey. “Charlotte’s work has always carried a sense of movement and transformation,” says Cris Worley. “But this new series has an almost celebratory confidence. It feels like a breakthrough.”

Smith began painting in her thirties while studying architecture and caring for her ailing mother. What began as a personal exploration blossomed into a formal art practice culminating in an MFA from the University of North Texas under the mentorship of Vincent Falsetta. Over the past two decades, she has honed a signature style that marries labor-intensive process with a visceral immediacy.

Charlotte Smith has presented more than thirty solo exhibitions and has been featured in numerous prestigious publications, including Global Corporate Collections, Texas Abstract, and State of the Art: Contemporary Artists in Texas. Her work resides in the collections of UT Southwestern Medical Center, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, the South Texas Institute for the Arts, Neiman Marcus, and other major private and corporate collections nationwide.

Cris Worley Fine Arts is a Dallas, Texas-based contemporary art gallery located in the Dallas Design District. With over two decades of experience, Cris Worley continues to champion innovative contemporary artists working across media and concepts.
